Hot Air Balloon Decoration Tutorial

I promised on my Tumbler site when I posted about my friend Meriel’s baby shower that I would create a tutorial for the ‘hot air balloon decorations’ I created for the event.

It involves some IKEA hacking but is really quite simple! I hope you have as much fun as I did creating them.

If you’re interested in the miniature bunting, let me know in the comments and if there is sufficient interest I’ll upload a template for them too.

    Hi!

I love this hack, and must ask whether you painted the lamps or if they’re available in IKEA in these colors?

I bought these in the colours shown in the photos from my local Ikea store. But I’ve only seen them online in white.

Such a great idea!! I actually need to create some hot air balloons for an “around the world” theme event I am hosting in November. I was checking out the IKEA website…is it called the VATE Table Lamp?! Also, do you think the material of the “lamp” is sturdy enough to be spray painted?!

Hi Emily, I’m glad you like it! It’s this Ikea lamp (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20162001/). The paper is quite thin, but I think if you did a couple of light coats of spray paint to ensure you don’t dampen the paper too much they would work well.
Send me some pictures of the when you’re finished? I’d love to see them! Nx

      Hi Ashlee,
I’m so happy you like it 🙂
The garlands are made out of cardboard put through a printer and then glued onto bakers twine. I hope this helps!

This is such a cute idea! I’m going to try it with regular paper lanterns that I already have on hand. The teacup “basket” is just the cutest touch. Thank you for the idea!
