Paper Tea Cup #1 Lid (insert option)
As promised, here is the very belated, revised lid I designed for my Paper Tea Cups #1!
It won't fit on yesterdays tea cup, I'm still working on a lid design for it, it's a little trickier.
I love this design as it allows for the addition of a ribbon and bow, whilst maintaining the clean lines on the exterior of the cup.
Its's really quite easy to do and is made up of the same card stock as the Paper Tea Cup. A nice 160gsm thick card. It's only three pieces, a little glue and some ribbon!
To make the lid, cut out the three pieces on the template below. I've cut out the center hole on each of the circular pieces to allow for accurate alignment, but you don't have to do this if you don't wish.
Take the long band and fold all of the tabs over 90 degrees. Using a quick drying adhesive or double-sided tape, stick the underside of the tabs to the top of the smaller circle piece, gradually wrapping the band around the circle.
Once you've glued all of the band tabs to the smaller circle, glue the end tab on the band to itself (on the inside).
Then glue your ribbon on opposing sides of the lid.
I used a pin to align the larger circle over the smaller one, glueing them into position.
And it's done! Your lid is assembled.
Using a scalpel or x-acto knife, cut a line 12mm down from the lip of your cup just slightly wider than your chosen ribbon in the centre of a panel. And do the same on the reverse of the cup. This is much easier to do before your cup is assembled.
You then feed your ribbon through the slots you've cut, pull through gently whilst aligning the lid and your cup and pull snug (but not too tight, you don't want to tear your cup).
Tie yourself a pretty bow and you're done!
I think I need to have a tea party....
